New baby

I don't know which is more mind-boggling and unbelievable: that we have a new puppy, that we have said puppy in the house, or that I have turned into one of those people who posts puppy pictures to her blog.

She is a cute little beagle named, tentatively, Belle (after Snoopy's sister, of course). Today, she has been mostly busy being the most hilariously adorable little thing in the world, making us laugh at her playful antics and her "hunting" instincts. Well, so far she has the following interesting scents thing down pat...although, being somewhat of a baby, she does get easily distracted from her task of keeping on scent.

Last night she cried a lot. It seems that even doggie babies shouldn't be separated from their mothers too early. To make up for this, we are spending lots of time bonding with her and practicing attachment dog ownership. Or something like that!

Just so that we'll be truly eclectic doggie "parents", we've also given her playpen time. Well, actually it was crate time, but we think it should still count.

And tonight, when my husband comes home, I'll be sure to insist on some couch time before I let him look at the puppy. After that, we'll go back to the attachment/bonding stuff. It's a lot more fun.

  1. From a fellow Beagle owner, congratulations! Beward of chewing. Our dog is 10 years old this June and she still loves to raid the bathroom garbage and shred Kleenex.

Beagles are wonderful dogs. They are pretty smart, and they love people. Yours reminds me of mine!
