Strange Memories

This blog ♠ Chewymom ♠ certainly prompted a lot of memories for me this morning. Back in the day, I was a member of the Underground Anti-Ezzo Alliance. OK, there was no such group, although I was accused, by none other than Gary Ezzo, of being part of some sort of "network". That accusation was laughable because, at the time, I felt like a lone voice crying out on behalf of mothers and babies about to be caught in the grips of a less-than-healthy parenting philosophy. Everyone else I knew either hadn't heard of the Ezzos, thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread, or didn't have the time/energy/determination/plan/means/loud mouth to do much of anything about it.

Things have, since then, changed...a lot. Although my personal website still has my old articles, etc., I haven't kept up on all things Ezzo. Far more articulate and knowledge voices than mine have written and spoken volumes about the issues in the Ezzo camp and in their materials. People have accomplished things that I never dreamed possible in alerting parents, churches, the media, etc., about some distressing problems associated with GFI. I've stepped aside, for the most part and thanked God for those who have gone on to do far beyond what I could do.

And then I read Chewymom's installments in her ongoing series about her involvement as a GFI Contact Mom, back in the day, and how she has come to no longer support that organization or parenting philosophy. I'm fascinated and can't wait to read the next installment...and the next.

I noticed my blog in her links column. Wow. And it wasn't with a warning (e.g., "Blogs to shun and avoid"). As a friend of mine would say, "Who woulda thunk it?"

Back when it was hard not to take sides in the "parenting wars" (as one article described it) and not to take personally accusations of being "Christian up to a point", or not to get all miffed about being banished from online forums or being caught up in acrimonious debate, I used to remind myself that some day all of us who trusted in Christ, no matter how we fed or "trained" our children, would find ourselves spending eternity together. Conflicts and disagreements would fade away.

What's really cool is seeing that happen on this side of Heaven.

  1. God Bless!

If you get a chance could you please say a prayer for a little girl named "Rebekah" who has cancer. God knows who you will be praying about! Thank you so much!

Trying to rally some good Christian Prayer for her and her family!

  2. Oh, Rebecca....There's lots I could say....I feel like I've known you forever, first as "the enemy," and now as someone I respect. I look forward to meeting up in eternity, if not before.

  3. Can it be old home week on Rebecca's blog tonight? Hugs to both of you. I'm glad I found your blog, Rebecca. And remember Carla Harbron? She's now expecting her fifth child -- in about ten weeks.

  5. Hey, I have a question. Today, when I was actually awake, I came back to your blog and read some old posts. First, I am so sorry about your brother's death. You know, I kept praying for you all long after you left PAM, not knowing. I finally found out through Kathy Nesper a few months ago. I should have contacted you then.

Secondly....couldn't help but notice that you refer to "Child #6" and then "Youngest child." You had another after your May 1997 baby? Or am I just miscounting Rebecca's children? And I am not stalking you or anything by remembering one of your kids' birthdays, I promise -- he is almost exactly a year younger than one of mine.

If you don't want to say so on the blog, e-mail me when you get a chance, OK? HuneycuttL@missouri.edu

  6. Hi, Lois! No, you didn't miscount. Child #6 is Youngest Child. Sometimes I refer to them by number and sometimes by name. Haha.
